What began as a passion project has evolved into something more. We’re proud of where we’ve been and even more excited for what’s ahead.

What sets us apart isn’t just our process—it’s the intention behind it. We take time to understand, explore, and create with purpose at every turn.

An Invisible Victim

Domestic violence takes a toll not just on human lives but often on the lives of their pets as well. They are sometimes used as a tool by the abusers to terrorize, control, or emotionally manipulate their partners. At Whispering Acres Farm Animal Sanctuary, we believe that every life is precious and deserves a chance at a better future. This is why we provide a safe haven for farm animals caught in the crosshairs of domestic violence so that they too can escape the cycle of violence and find peace in a loving home.

The Founder of Whispering Acres, along with several volunteers are survivors of domestic violence. They have made it their mission to help others that are experiencing situations similar to those they have faced.

Shocking Statistics

  • Up to 48% of domestic violence victims delay leaving abusive situations for fear of harming their pets.

  • 71% of pet-owning women entering shelters reported that their batterer had injured, maimed, killed, or threatened family pets for revenge or control.

  • Only 3% of domestic violence shelters in the US allow pets.

  • No domestic violence shelters in the US allow farm animals.

Our Stories

After years of emotional and physical abuse, Christine escaped from her abuser with Buddy, her beloved goat. They came to Whispering Acres where Buddy received expert medical and behavioral assistance. Buddy made an amazing transformation in the shelter and soon Christine was able to find a safe and supportive community and housing. Buddy and Christine remain devoted to each other and are grateful to the shelter for connecting them to a better future.

Milo and Sally are a heartwarming example of the power of a loving home. Mil was abandoned by his owners and was brought to the shelter by a good samaritan. Sally, a domestic violence survivor, had just left her abuser and was experiencing loneliness and depression. The team at the sanctuary believed that bringing them together would benefit both. Over the weeks, Mil and Sally established a strong bond, and the rest is history. Today, they remain inexplicably connected, and Sally notes that Milo has helped her find joy, love, and meaning again.

Emma rescued Billy Ray from a violent home. She was nervous about going to a domestic violence shelter, but Whispering Acres changed her life. She credits the counseling and resources she received at the shelter with helping her overcome the emotional effects of her abuse and give her the confidence to start a new life. Billy Ray was able to receive essential medical care and supportive services at the sanctuary while Emma found the strength to build a new life on her own.
