Emergency Intake: Six Equines Seized from Humane Neglect Case (May 8th, 2026)
Whispering Acres recently took in six equines following a humane seizure in Wayne County. The rescue operation was initiated at 3 PM today following a call from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department and the Wayne County Dog Warden. Whispering Acres staff were on the scene by 5 PM to assist.
Condition Upon Arrival
The equines were living in severe conditions, exhibiting signs of extreme neglect:
Body Condition: Most horses have a body condition score of 1, described as skin stretched over bones.
Nutrition: They had no proper nutrition, shelter, or comfort, and were surviving on cattle feed mixed with diatomaceous earth.
Hoof Care: Their hooves had not been trimmed in years.
Dental Health: Their teeth are in terrible condition, causing pain and difficulty with eating.
Current Status and Immediate Needs
The horses are currently safe at Whispering Acres with warm bedding and full bellies. Due to their compromised state, they must remain in strict quarantine and require extensive care. The medical expenses for these six animals are expected to be enormous.1
Required specialized care includes:
Specialized refeeding diets
Emergency veterinary care1
Dental care
Farrier care
Bloodwork and parasite treatment
Ongoing rehabilitation and monitoring
